THE SILK COCCONERY

Traces of the Villani-Tonin and Dellai Silk Mills are still preserved in Marano Vicentino and the Silk Cocoonery(1) can be seen rising out of the greenery in Contrada del Pozzo, this is where the cocoons for the Marano silk mills were collected and dried. Its characteristic early nineteenth-century three-storey(2) architecture rises above the airy windowed portico. The façade(3) is completely filled with rectangular lowered flat-arched openings, while the central band shows coupled arched Venetian-style windows.
