(1848 - 1884)
Giovan Battista Conte, known as Tita, was one of the most lively protagonists in the history of the Conte Wool Mill, he was the most concerned about technological innovations and the closest to the leadership of his friend and relative Alessandro Rossi. He was the one who enlarged the old wool mill with the addition of the impressive structure parallel to the Roggia modelled on the Fabbrica Alta, as well as lesser structures, in order to meet the requirements for the mechanisation of the various fabric production phases. Besides strengthening the market, Giovan Battista Conte intervened in favour of the workers, for example by founding the Mutual Aid Society in 1882 and improving wages. Conte is to be remembered not only as a protagonist in the economic life of Schio but also for his intense social and political activity.
